Hunting Shirts and Hunting Frocks
Also called rifle shirts or rifle frocks, these garments were worn by backwoodsmen all over America from the middle
1700's until the 1840's, when they began to gradually go out of style. Universally practical and utilitarian, George
Washington once ordered 10,000 of them made for the Continental Army. Each shirt was made according to the same
pattern, but each reflected the individual tastes of its owner in details of construction and decoration. Quite often one
or two capes were added, though one cape with a double row of fringe was common, and shirts with no cape were known
as well. Usually there would be fringe at the hem and cuffs, and one or two rows on the cape. All of our garments come
to you completely finished with the fringe applied and pulled, so it's ready to wear as soon as it arrives.

length front opening, double capes, and a liberal amount of fringe. All fringe

fits your wrist and fastens with a pewter button, or can be made with a
shirt-type sleeve and cuff, or a tapered sleeve. Can also be made with a
regular shirt-style sleeve and cuff, or a tapered sleeve with no cuff. After
